Role Purpose:

The Team Manager is responsible for the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Early Childhood (EC) Approach across Lifestart’s service areas, and in collaboration with other Team Managers and Senior Managers in the Early Childhood (EC) Team.

The Team Manager leads and manages a team of allied health and education professionals to deliver Lifestart’s early childhood services that promote inclusion and positive outcomes for children 0-6 years living with disability and development delay, including their families/carers.

This position is leading and supporting the Nepean Blue Mountains region.


Key Selection Criteria:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in early childhood, community services, allied health or social sciences 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams
  • Experience in early childhood intervention

Critical knowledge / skills 

  • Strong leadership and change management skills
  • Staff supervision experience including the ability to develop and support an effective team
  • Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Knowledge of person-centred approaches within family centred practice and commitment to the provision of services and innovations that reflect evidence-based, best practice
  • Ability to support staff to work flexibly in response to families’ individualised needs and priorities
  • Ability to work sensitively and empathically with families/carers from diverse cultural backgrounds and complex needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other local services/organisations in ways that build capacity for inclusion and lead to positive outcomes for children and families/carers
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve day to day issues that arise
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in IT including Microsoft Office Suite and database management

Essential Criteria

  • Valid Working with Children’s Check Clearance (WWCC)
  • Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWC)
  • Fully vaccinated for the Covid-19 virus or accepted medical exemption certificate.
  • Successful pre-employment background checks
  • Current driver’s licence and use of own car

Lifestart has a COVID-19 vaccination policy that has identified this role as requiring a full COVID-19 vaccination. Medical exemptions with the NSW government contraindication form will be considered, subject to a satisfactory risk assessment.


Key Result AreasKey Activities
EC Service DeliveryDevelop and maintain a thorough understanding of NDIS, contractual and organisational requirements.

Work strategically and collaboratively with families/carers and other stakeholders to achieve quality outcomes for children with developmental delay or disability and their families.

Develop strategies to integrate staff disciplines and skills to work collaboratively in a person/family centred, transdisciplinary and strengths-based approach.

Ensure that staff within the team demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity in relation to families/carers from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and/or who experience disadvantage, vulnerability and/or trauma.

Work with Lifestart senior management and other Team Managers EC to implement changes in the delivery of EC supports, initiated by Lifestart or in response to directives from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
ManagementLead the delivery of the day-to-day operations of a team in/across service areas.

Motivate and enhance individual and team performance through identifying areas for improvement and by providing regular feedback, supervision, training, coaching and development.

Monitor staff workloads to support staff to deliver outcomes for children and young people with disability and their families and to ensure that allocation targets are met.

Ensure that all services, activities and programs are consistent with Lifestart’s commitment to providing evidence-based and best practice early intervention programs for children and families/carers.

Remain abreast of and where required disseminate information about government initiatives and legislative changes and more specifically, those relating to the NDIS and our role as an EC partner.

Act ethically and with integrity in decision making and in resolving complex problems.

Model collaboration and reflective leadership practice at all times.

Other duties as required.
Communication and AccountabilityMonitor team output and performance in line with funding contracts, KPIs and Lifestart policies, and provide written and verbal feedback as required by senior management.

Effectively ensure all information is treated in a way that respects the individual clients right to confidentiality and dignity.

Comply with Lifestart policies and procedures and other relevant standards for service provision.
