Our Story

Working at Lifestart means working for an organisation that has grown from humble beginnings to become one of Australia’s leading disability service providers without compromising the values at its heart. We believe all children and young people living with disability can participate inclusively and meaningfully in their community. To achieve this, we place the child or young person at the centre of all decision making and planning, supporting them to achieve their goals and live a fulfilling, meaningful life.

We are a large organisation consisting of multiple disciplines and areas, with teams comprised of Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists and more. However, no matter what the role, we are united by a shared philosophy – that a successful day at work means successfully helping a child or young person living with disability be an equal and valued member of their community and society.

Lifestart was founded in 1996 by a group of eight families who used a small amount of funding to run a program in a single classroom in Turramurra Public School. Today, Lifestart operates out of eleven offices throughout NSW and supports over 10,000 children and young people, their families and their carers across Australia. It’s a success we’re proud of because it is a success built on lived experience and a genuine desire to change lives for the better.
