Tech Talkers Sessions

30 April @ 9:45 am 11:45 am

Does your child use an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) system or device?

If you don’t understand how to best use the system or device yourself, you won’t be able to help your child get the best out of it, nor will you be able to effectively communicate with your child using the device in return. Tech Talkers® is an interactive online program developed by experts and backed by proven results, consisting of six parent training workshops and two individual sessions run by a Lifestart Speech Pathologist. You’ll also meet and learn from other families and carers like yourself, and leave with a range of practical easy-to-implement strategies to help your child reach their communication potential.

Hear more about Tech Talkers® – including from one of the families who have undertaken the program – below.

Who is it for?

  • Parents and carers who want to learn how to better support their child to use their AAC system (regardless of what system they are using or how old they are)
  • Other people in the person’s life who use AAC with the person (e.g. other family members, school teachers or support workers)

What’s included?

  • 6 x 2-hour workshop sessions (communication partners only)
  • 2 x 1:1 sessions with you and the person you support (pre-program assessment and mid-way through program to practice skills)

Please note that Tech Talkers is a program for anyone communicating with a child or young person who uses an AAC system. The child or young person does not attend any of the sessions.

To undertake the program, the child or young person you are caring for must already be using an AAC system such as high-tech AAC (eg, an iPad with communication software or dedicated AAC device) or a low-tech system (eg, a PODD book, PECS, communication board).

Tech Talkers® was developed by Rocky Bay speech pathologists in 2016 and has helped thousands of children and their carers around the world.
