Social Inclusion Week

Social Inclusion Week is from the 22nd to the 30th of November 2014 this year.

It aims to help ensure all Australians feel included and valued equally.

Giving everyone the opportunity to participate fully in all society has to offer.

It’s about connecting local communities, workmates, family and friends in order to build and strengthen relationships and networks, addressing isolation and exclusion by supporting people who may be unable to help themselves.

NSW disability organisations, practitioners and community groups were recognised on Wednesday night by the Minister for Disability Services, the Hon. John Ajaka MLC, for their innovative approaches to service delivery.

At a ceremony attended by 170 guests from across the disability sector, winners and finalists of the NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards were thanked by the Minister for their contribution to greater inclusion, choice and flexibility for people with disability

The Awards celebrate the many creative initiatives developed by non-government disability service providers and community groups who are thinking beyond traditional support models.

Winners and finalists ranged from services:

  • supporting young people seeking employment;
  • raising awareness around sexuality for people with disability;
  • placing people with disability at the centre of their workforce planning; and
  • creating new TAFE courses to support the transition to open employment.

Lifestart was awarded as a finalist for the NSW Disability Industry Innovation Awards recognised for excellence in the disability sector in the category of excellence in workforce development. Lifestart cited the CPOSS project and the implementation of our Contemporary Practice Framework in our nomination. Development of the CPOSS model flowed from the Contemporary Practice Framework.

“Good innovation comes from improved understanding of your service users. This means developing solutions that are better, more attractive, more effective and more sustainable. Innovation is turning a great idea into an even better reality” Scott Holz, NDS NSW State Manager said.
