Prime Minister confirms NDIS funding

08 May 2012

Around 8,000 people including Lifestart families and friends attended the Make It Real rally held in Homebush on Monday 30 April 2012 wearing every shade of red to show their support of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Prime Minister Julia Gillard addressed the Sydney rally and announced the NDIS would be launched in four pilot sites across the country in 2013 supporting more than 10,000 Australians living with disability.

The PM said that an NDIS will give all Australians with a significant disability the peace of mind to know that their care and support needs will be addressed, no matter where they live or how they acquired their disability.

Lifestart families took the opportunity to speak with Ms Gillard about the challenges they face and the impact on their lives in caring for a child with a disability. The rally was heralded as an enormous success with significant media coverage and speeches by key politicians and disability advocates to make the case for the NDIS. The Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin spoke at the rally along with the Premier, the Hon. Barry O’Farrell and Minister for Disability Services, the Hon. Andrew Constance who outlined the New South Wales Government’s commitment to the NDIS. There were also a number of other speakers who added to the discussions on the NDIS.

Everone in the community is encouraged to join up to the Every Australian Counts campaign to put weight behind the future of the NDIS.
