One man’s ride to change many children’s futures

Scott Berry is a father of three from Sydney whose son, Nathan, was diagnosed on the Autism spectrum when he was just a toddler. Thanks to being connected with Lifestart, we were able to work with the Berry family to support them on the journey ahead and provide important early intervention treatments for Nathan that allowed him to grow and thrive to his full potential. Today, Nathan is a happy, healthy, independent young man and beloved member of his community in Kellyville where he works for the local Coles.

When Scott’s employer, Komatsu Australia, offered their staff the opportunity to apply to an initiative where they could undertake a personal challenge to raise funds for a cause of their choice, Scott saw an opportunity to realise his dream of bike riding from Brisbane to Sydney whilst giving back to the organisation that helped his family and shaped the future of his son.

Komatsu are providing a fantastic $10,000 donation to Lifestart, and now you are also invited to show your support through the event GoFundMe page. All funds will go directly to Lifestart at a time when they are more needed than ever. With forthcoming changes to the NDIS scheme, many families who are only at the beginning of their story will face an uncertain landscape of disability support. Our donations allow us to help families in fundamentally important ways beyond the NDIS system. These free programs recognise that a child’s future is also about educating and supporting an entire family unit and the community they are a part of – from parents to siblings, school teachers and community supports – who together, with the right health professionals like our speech pathologists, occupational therapists and behaviour practitioners, can profoundly change the course of a child’s life.

We thank Scott and the Berry family for their acknowledgement and generosity, and Komatsu for this incredible program to enable their team to give back to organisations like ours.

We ask you to join Scott and donate now through his GoFundMe page.
