Lifestart Kayak for Kids is an inspirational paddling challenge on Sydney Harbour raising funds for Lifestart’s early childhood intervention and school aged services for children with a disability or developmental delay.

Get your team together for a fun workout on the water. Kayak for Kids encourages friendly competition, teambuilding and co-operation. There will be three major components of the day:

1. The Paddling Event: Participate as a three person team or as a relay team of up to twelve people in a provided three seat kayak. It also provides the opportunity for experienced paddlers who have their own one or two seat craft to participate in a unique time trial as it hugs the northern shoes from Blues Point to Clontarf.

2. Spectators: Spectators are encouraged to cheer their team along the way with vantage points at strategic positions and at transition points along the foreshore.

3. The Event Hub: At the finish line at Clontarf, there will be plenty to do at Lifestart’s annual family picnic with fun, food and entertainment for everyone.

Get active and fundraise for Lifestart. Lifestart Eastern Sydney Branch hosts the NSW Premier, the Hon Kristina Keneally announcing Stronger Together 2 funding on 3 December 2010

On International Day of People with Disability, 3 December 2010, Lifestart Eastern Sydney hosted Premier Keneally when she announced the Stronger Together 2 package of $2 billion for the next five years. The Premier was surrounded by families and children at the branch as she made the announcement. This was an exciting day for people with disability in NSW as well as their families and carers. Additional early and therapy places will now be made available. Premier Keneally joined in a Lifestart Open Play Group prior to the announcement. Lifestart is very priveleged to have been chosen as the venue for the event.

The Minister for Ageing, Disability and Home Care, the Hon Peter Primrose MLC, also attended, along with the Chief Executive, Jim Moore, and Deputy Director General, Lauren Murray, of Ageing, Disability and Home Care. A number of senior ADHC staff and distinguished guests attended, including Professor Ron McCallum, NSW Senior Australian of the Year for 2011, Dougie Herd, Executive Officer of the NSW Disability Council, and Kate More and Patrick Maher from National Disability Services. Representatives from other disability organisations also attended.

Andrew Wilson, Lifestart’s Chairman and Marion Trabe represented Lifestart’s Board of Directors at the function. The Kelso family, from Eastern Sydney Branch, Marion and her daughter, Lucy, and Andrew made presentations of paintings and photos from Play for Kids to the Premier and the Minister and a painting to Jim Moore. There was a large media contingent present and the Premier held a lengthy private press conference with the media after the event.

The Premier’s announcement of additional funds follows the Stronger Together 2 rally which was held at the Opera House in October.

The Premier announced a commitment of expenditure of $2 billion over the next five years, including additional early intervention places. Please see the Premier’s announcement at http://www.premier.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/101203-stronger-together.pdf

The link to Stronger Together 2 can be found at http://www.dadhc.nsw.gov.au/dadhc/Publication+and+policies/stronger_together.htm

The Opposition has made a commitment to honour Stronger Together 2 if it wins government in the State election next March.

We would like to thank all the families who came along to the event and the staff who helped with organising the event as well as those who supported the rally in October.
