Jack’s story

We recently heard from the mother of Jack; a young man Lifestart supported several years ago. Jack lived in rural NSW and was one of the first clients Lifestart supported online.

Jack has finished school, is now studying at university and moved to live on campus earlier this year. COVID-19 meant the university shifted to remote learning and Jack had to move home.  After four months Jack decided it was time to move back.

He now has a support crew who are a mix of personal carers and university students. Jack manages this himself with the assistance of his Support Coordinator and he has complete control over any changes he wants to make. Even though study is still online, living on campus means that Jack has more social activity around him and is enjoying his independence again.

Jack’s mum said, I really think that online support he did with Lifestart … was the start of him gaining confidence with his independence … I am certain that the goal setting and practice phone calls etc Jack did … years ago started him gaining independence and taking control of his life.
