Lifestart Disability Services has been a sector leader in delivering person-centred, community-driven support from its inception. In 1996, eight parents of young children with disability decided the best way to get the support program they wanted for their families was to create their own. They received a small funding grant and opened their first therapy and support space in Turramurra. Lifestart was born.
Thirty years later, Lifestart now supports over 13,000 children, young people and their families annually out of eight offices across New South Wales. This June, we celebrated how far we’ve come at the place where it all began.
The event was attended by many of Lifestart’s founding families; as well as Member for Bradfield, Nicolette Boele MP; Kur-ring-gai Mayor, Christine Kay; Lifestart CEO, Birgitte Maibom, and Lifestart Chair, Helen Craig.
