Communicating with teenagers can sometimes feel challenging, especially when emotions are running high, responses are brief, or conversations seem difficult to start. This practical and interactive workshop explores strategies to strengthen connection, build trust, and create more opportunities for meaningful conversations with your teen. Participants will learn how to use active listening, ask open-ended questions, support problem-solving, and respond with curiosity rather than judgement. Through discussion and practical activities, parents and carers will leave with realistic, evidence-informed strategies they can start using straight away to support positive communication and stronger relationships at home.
Workshop topics include:
- Understanding common communication barriers for teenagers
- Building connection and trust
- Active listening and helping teens feel heard
- Using open-ended and coaching-style questions
- Managing difficult conversations and strong emotions
- Choosing the right time and place for important discussions
