Last week, the Minister for the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Stuart Robert released the government’s plan to improve the NDIS.
The plan reaffirms that the NDIS exists to help people with disability reach the goals they want – to live more independently, get a job or engage more in the community. It gives all Australians choice and control when accessing the support and services they need for a quality, meaningful life.
Below are some key points from the Minister’s speech:
- Plan duration will be further extended so that wherever possible and appropriate plan reviews are only initiated in line with significant life milestones.
- The distinction between core and capacity building will be removed so that participants and their families can use the funds in their plans more flexibly.
- The use of independent functional assessments will be fully implemented and fully paid for by the NDIA.
